This just came out from the RBA today. The chart below shows at what age people expect to retire based on surveys since 2003. The green bars are those who expect to retire late (once they are 65 years or older), while the blue bars are those who expect to retire early (ie, at under 65 years). Observe the big increase from 50%> 60% of people who expect to retire late in 2009 after the impact of the GFC. There has also been a similar reduction in those who expect to retire early from around 45% of people in 2003 to circa 35% in 2009...
