The author has been described by News Ltd as an "iconoclast", "Svengali", a pollie's "economist muse", and "pungently accurate". Fairfax says he is a "Renaissance man" and "one of Australia’s most respected analysts." Stephen Koukoulas concludes that he is "85% right", and "would make a great Opposition leader." Terry McCrann claims the author thinks "‘nuance’ is a trendy village in the south of France", but can be "scintillating" when he thinks "clearly". The ACTU reckons he’s "an enigma wrapped in a Bloomberg terminal, wrapped in some apparently well-honed abs."

SMH/Australian: RBA to ignore budget and hike in June
Just out in Saturday's papers: two independent reports (SMH here and The Australian here) confirming the RBA will ignore the Budget and raise rates in June, no matter its content. Peter Martin, the SMH journo, is a very senior and respected Canberra-based economics commentator for Fairfax, who has the best Treasury contacts of any media rep in Australia. David Uren is The Australian's Canberra-based economics correspondent and is similarly well-connected with the RBA and Treasury. June is now looking like a very high probability.
