Fairfax says he is a "Renaissance man" and "one of Australia’s most respected analysts." Stephen Koukoulas concludes that he is "85% right", and "would make a great Opposition leader." Terry McCrann claims the author thinks "‘nuance’ is a trendy village in the south of France", but can be "scintillating" when he thinks "clearly". The ACTU reckons he’s "an enigma wrapped in a Bloomberg terminal, wrapped in some apparently well-honed abs."

Stephen Koukoulas vs. The Liberal Party

Koukie just loves having a crack at the Libs:

"Oh no – the Liberal Party is showing that the lack of understanding of the budget, the bond market and economics is broadly based, even among the new blood in its ranks. This time it is Josh Frydenberg, the Member for Kooyong who shows he cannot read the budget papers, nor understand economics and the bond market, with his Op Ed article in today’s The Australian."

If you are trying to recast yourself as an independent economic consultant it is probably half-smart to not make overly partisan comments or personally attack people, especially politicians. Then again, maybe Koukie has other aspirations! I've always found him very pleasant in person.
